A year of strategic partnership: Janitza and Digimondo jointly create new solutions for the energy industry.

Following their successful merger, the two companies are positioning themselves as an end-to-end solution provider and working together on answers to the challenges facing the data-driven energy sector.

News 1-Jahr-Partnerschaft Digimondo-Janitza

Janitza and Digimondo are looking back on one year of collaboration and drawing a positive joint conclusion. That is by no means a given in a constellation where one partner acquires a majority stake in another. After all, a software company operates very differently from a provider of industrial products. Their organizational structures and corporate cultures differ significantly: on the one hand, there is Janitza electronics GmbH. Based in the Frankfurt region, the family-owned company has been in business for 40 years and is now a global player in energy measurement technology. On the other hand, there is Digimondo: a young, highly specialized IoT software company from Hamburg with a strong start-up mentality. For the past ten years, Digimondo has been helping metering point operators and grid operators capture and use data from meters, sensors, and substations efficiently and profitably.

The strategic goal: strengthening end-to-end solution expertise

Today’s data-driven energy industry is demanding integrated systems in which hardware, software, and services work together seamlessly. Janitza is therefore expanding its end-to-end solution capabilities in order to offer the market end-to-end solutions that truly fit its needs. Janitza provides reliable measurement data, while Digimondo contributes the software and a highly specialized solution expertise that makes it possible to turn captured data into actionable value and scale the system.

Christopher Rath, CEO of Digimondo, emphasizes: “Without metering data, our customers derive little benefit from Digimondo. And data on its own does not help Janitza’s customers either. The real value comes from combining the two. That was the idea behind the merger. This way, our customers gain not just individual measurement points, but transparency into energy flows and consumption patterns.”

Alexander Veidt, CEO of Janitza, explains the rationale behind the decision as follows: “Our primary goal was to combine the capabilities of our two companies in the best interest of our customers. On the one hand, Janitza brings a strong industrial foundation, customer trust built over decades, our international relationships, and our expertise in measurement technology and energy monitoring. Digimondo’s solution complements our portfolio perfectly, because it enables the use of data intelligence and translates IoT and software architecture into scalable applications.”

These advantages of combining hardware and software are clearly visible in the implementation of the requirements under Section 14a of the German Energy Industry Act (§14a EnWG) for customers such as Dortmunder Netz GmbH. Through the close collaboration between Janitza and Digimondo, a scalable solution consisting of Janitza hardware and Digimondo software was developed within a short period of time to implement §14a.

Joint software project: the Niotix Bridge connects both worlds

Another clear example of the increased customer benefit resulting from the collaboration between the two companies is the rapid implementation of a cross-sector energy management system. To achieve this goal, Janitza and Digimondo jointly launched a key software project in October 2025: the Niotix Bridge. From a product perspective, it represents a pioneering convergence of the two companies.

Digimondo CTO Marcus Walena explains: “At first glance, it may look like a small piece of software. But the Niotix Bridge opens the door between the Janitza and Digimondo worlds: it enables our customers to combine both providers’ software and use them as a single solution.”

Existing GridVis® users therefore benefit not only from analyzing their electricity data, but will also be able to evaluate data from water meters, heat meters, and gas meters in the future. While GridVis® analyzes metering data, identifies energy-saving potential, and supports compliance with standards, Niotix focuses on the integration, visualization, and system connectivity of a wide range of IoT data sources and cross-sector energy flows involving heat, water, and gas. The Niotix Bridge is already in use at initial customer sites such as Osnabrück University.

The recipe for success: not replacing cultures, but combining capabilities

The past twelve months have shown that the teams’ capabilities complement one another and that the corporate cultures of Janitza and Digimondo work well together.

Alexander Veidt sees one main reason for this: “We did not simply place the two companies side by side. Nor did we replace Digimondo’s culture with our own. Instead, we aligned around a shared goal and gave both teams the opportunity to combine their strengths. From my point of view, that is our shared key to success. Integration does not mean that one company reshapes the other.”

From the outset, management made a conscious effort not to standardize the distinct worlds of the two partners merely for the sake of integration. Instead, the roadmap was: understand one another, combine the right elements, and integrate only where real added value is created. This gives Janitza and Digimondo customers the opportunity to fully digitize the metering data captured with Janitza through Digimondo’s IoT platform. In an increasingly digital energy world, powerful software is the key.

“The acquisition of a majority stake in Digimondo was therefore a major step in our strategic direction,” Alexander Veidt stresses. “For the past year, we have successfully been creating holistic solutions together. Through this merger, we are solving real customer challenges in the areas of energy efficiency, security of supply, transparency, and controllability.”

The next joint step: a scalable model for the global market

Over the coming years, the focus will be on the technological, commercial, and international scaling of the joint solution. The technology will continue to evolve so that metering data, energy data, IoT, and software applications interlock even more effectively. Building on Janitza’s strong customer base and Digimondo’s highly specialized solution expertise, both companies also aim to further expand their international reach.

From an organizational perspective, the companies see their task as developing and establishing a repeatable, scalable model in the market.

“It is not about technology for technology’s sake,” says Christopher Rath. “Our shared goal is to generate clear, scalable value from technology. We want to achieve this by prioritizing those application areas that create real added value for our customers.”

Janitza and Digimondo share a common vision: making energy transparent, controllable, and secure worldwide. To this end, they support their customers with precise solutions for measurement, monitoring, and energy management that reduce complexity, increase efficiency, and ensure a reliable and resilient energy supply.

Together, Digimondo and Janitza have found an answer to the challenges their customers face in a growing market driven by the need for digitalization, transparency, and control. In doing so, the companies aim to make their contribution to a resilient infrastructure in the demanding energy world of tomorrow.
