Janitza introduces the new Universal Gateway JUG 25
Janitza expands its product range with the new Universal Gateway JUG 25. The gateway bridges the communication gap between Modbus and MQTT, enabling measuring devices to be easily integrated into IoT systems.

With the Universal Gateway JUG 25, Janitza introduces a new accessory that connects UMG devices communicating via Modbus to MQTT brokers. The JUG 25 is designed for DIN rail mounting and translates Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP communication into MQTT. In addition, it can be used as a Modbus converter, converting Modbus RTU into Modbus TCP.
This allows existing Modbus devices to be integrated into an MQTT-based IoT infrastructure without having to replace installed measuring devices.
Efficient integration and communication
With the JUG 25, companies can easily implement new energy and IoT projects. The gateway enables the next level of energy management without complex integration or concerns about connecting existing measurement devices. Installed devices remain fully usable and do not need to be replaced, saving both time and costs.
The JUG 25 significantly improves transparency and data availability by connecting measuring devices to cloud platforms, dashboards and data lakes.
Use cases for the JUG 25
JUG 25 is primarily used as an IoT gateway, enabling communication between Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP slave devices and an MQTT broker. For high-performance applications, the gateway can transmit 1,000 measured values for up to 10 devices in a single communication cycle. It also allows data acquired via Modbus to be published to freely defined MQTT topics.
TLS/SSL encryption for MQTT communication ensures a secure connection and reliable data transfer. Even in the event of brief communication interruptions between the gateway and the MQTT-broker without a power outage, RAM-based buffering helps maintain data integrity.
A second common use case is operation as a Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP converter. In this mode, the JUG 25 integrates older RTU devices that are not directly accessible. It functions as a Modbus TCP client and converts incoming queries into the RTU protocol.
Bridge the communication gap
The Universal Gateway JUG 25 seamlessly connects Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, and MQTT systems. It enables users to integrate existing measuring devices into modern IoT infrastructures without the need for replacement. This saves time, costs, and resources while preparing systems for future requirements.
