REQUIREMENT
CITRESA, part of the Suntory Beverage and Food Spain
Group, is located in Carcaixent (Valencia), the birthplace of
the orange. The company produces concentrates, juices,
pulps, aromas, and essential oils that are later exported to
more than 40 countries for bottling and commercialization. These products give rise to such iconic beverages as
Schweppes®, Sunny Delight®, Orangina®, and Oasis®.
The customer’s challenge was to improve measurement
technology in order to obtain all the details regarding Power
Quality (PQ) and Energy Management (EM) within its logistics
facilities. The goal was to avoid unexpected downtimes by
monitoring PQ and to uncover all potential energy savings
through the EMS.
SOLUTION
In 2016, CYDESA, Janitza’s local solution partner in Spain, introduced Janitza’s 3-in-1 system for Power Quality (PQ), Energy Management (EM), and Residual Current Monitoring (RCM) to CITRESA’s technical department. Following a successful pilot project in 2017—focused on the medium-voltage main supply and low-voltage outputs from three key transformers—the customer gained new insights into their grid behavior and decided to expand the system. Over the following years, the installation was extended to all main electrical panels and critical circuits throughout the facility. Additionally, key flow meters were integrated via pulse inputs into the Janitza system. By 2025, more than 40 Janitza devices were in operation across the Carcaixent site, including Class A meters (UMG 512-PRO) at the utility connection point, UMG605-PRO meters for central distribution boards, and UMG604-PRO or UMG-96-PQ-L devices for detailed load monitoring—depending on installation requirements. All devices are centrally managed using GridVis®, Janitza’s grid quality and energy management software. In addition, CYDESA supported compliance efforts with Spanish energy regulations by securing zero-feed-in certifications for Janitza equipment. The system has also been extended to monitor the site’s rooftop PV installation since 2020.

BENEFIT
With the Janitza system in place, CITRESA can now precisely monitor the voltage quality across all major plant sections. This enables early detection of Power Quality issues and more accurate root cause analysis. Furthermore, energy consumption is automatically tracked, reported, and visualized using GridVis®. Thanks to the software’s intuitive interface, energy reports are generated with minimal effort and grid status can be assessed continuously at multiple levels within the facility. The modular architecture allows CITRESA to tailor the monitoring depth for each circuit while ensuring full integration with their existing measurement infrastructure. The integration of the PV system also ensures regulatory compliance.
