REQUIREMENT

The Aguas de San Benedetto Group operates production sites in four countries and distributes its products in more than 100 countries worldwide. This case study focuses on the Requena (Valencia) site, in operation since 1997. The company bottles water from springs such as “Fuente Primavera” and “Font Natura” and also produces other beverages under brands like “Enjoy” and “San Benedetto Zero.” San Benedetto sought greater transparency in energy management within its logistics areas, as the energy consumption of individual loads was previously unknown. In addition, the company needed detailed monitoring of power quality to prevent unexpected downtime and uncover potential energy savings.

SOLUTION

CYDESA, Janitza’s local solution partner in Spain, first introduced the technical team at San Benedetto to Janitza’s 3-in-1 solution for energy management, power quality and residual current monitoring in 2019. The company’s primary goal was to gain transparency over the main energy consumers within the bottling facility. The initial project covered the monitoring of 36 critical circuits. CYDESA deployed several modular UMG 96-PA power analyzers, 96-RCM-E expansion modules, and a number of UMG 96RM-E devices. This setup enabled both detailed energy and performance analysis as well as continuous residual current monitoring. The modular system architecture proved ideal for the plant’s hetero eneous distribution network. In parallel, San Benedetto implemented the Expert license of Janitza’s GridVis® analysis and visualization software. In 2020 and 2021, San Benedetto expanded the system by installing additional Janitza measurement devices across all central distribution boards. By the end of this phase, nearly the entire bottling and logistics infrastructure was equipped with Janitza technology. Today, in 2025, the plant operates more than 80 Janitza devices throughout the Requena site. San Benedetto has also transitioned to the new Standard license of GridVis®, enabling centralized management and analysis of all measurement points. The monitoring system now serves as a key pillar for energy optimization and power quality assurance within the facility.

BENEFIT

Thanks to the Janitza monitoring system, Aguas San Benedetto was able to save approximately €500,000 within the first year. The system uncovered optimization potential across major consumers, lighting, and other plant equipment. It also identified significant leaks in the compressed air system, which were subsequently repaired and had previously caused a substantial increase in energy consumption. With the Janitza measurement system in place, San Benedetto can now accurately determine production costs per liter and per packaged unit. Using GridVis®, all required reports can be generated with ease, ensuring full transparency of energy usage. The maintenance team can also detect electrical issues—such as harmonics, unbalance, or residual currents— much faster than before.
